Jeremy Serwer, Aug 6 (Fri) 8pm
Acoustic/Americana
(No Cover)

“Bitter Sweet Ballads from The Nether World” states Angela Yeager of Salem Oregon’s Statesman Journal, a description as good as any other for the Sound of Jeremy Serwer. Jeremy’s songs are a meandering journey through Americana, angst, sorrow and disenchantment with US social policy. KINK Radio in Portland says this about Jeremy, “His songs run the gamut from emotionally charged heartbreakers to pointed political statements. His ability to generate emotion in an audience is testament to his songwriting expertise and a powerful bluesy expressive delivery.”

Jeremy is no stranger to the road having embarked on several Jaunts about the US and has also performed around South Korea.Jeremy currently resides in Seattle WA, and is hard at work with producer Michael Connolly on his second solo CD entitled “Roads” and album he will be dedicating to his mother and her very mysterious passing.

It is in his ability to generate emotion in an audience that Serwer begins his deviation from the norm. His songs build on a dynamic range of emotions and energy. Explosive and intense to light hearted and fun, his music presents an array of atmospheres that are difficult to pigeonhole.

Tania Opland, Aug 27 (Fri) 8pm
Multi-Instrumental Acoustic World Music
(No Cover)

"A superb fiddle player, and no slouch either on recorder, cittern, guitar and hammered dulcimer, she is also in possession of a voice of gentle strength that adapts well to suit various vocal styling." -Rock 'n' Reel Magazine, Cumbria, England

Over twenty-five years ago, Tania Opland decided to take a year off from her engineering and physics studies to try out her long standing dream of being a full-time performing musician. Her initial goal was simply to get by without a day job so she could focus exclusively on making music. After five solo albums, three collaborations, keeping up a transatlantic touring schedule for fourteen years, appearing on radio and television in seven countries, and winning fans around the globe, it can be safely said that she has exceeded her expectations (though the degrees remain unfinished).

Tania's concerts are a tapestry of melodic and lyrical textures blending intriguing cross-cultural influences, from soaring melodies on a solo instrument to powerful vocals backed by solid rhythm guitar or intricate fingerpicking. Complex Turkish and Balkan dance rhythms are more likely to be heard here than the more common "world beat grooves" used by so many bands, complementing a repertoire rich with Irish, Scottish and American songs and tunes.

Misty Flowers, Aug 20 (Fri) 7pm
Jazz, Folk and Blues
(No Cover)

Misty Flowers is a timeless passionate performer blending jazz, folk and blues elements into her own unique style. Her smoky sweet voice delivers powerful messages of peace and connection while her hypnotic guitar carries the listener along, through a world rich with rhythm and melody.

Misty's music reflects her own desire to face her life honestly and to take only the best from all of her encounters. Her music has won over many hearts and her newest album "NOW" is sure to win many more!

Rose Laughlin, Oct 2 (Sat) 8pm
Folk/Celtic/Roots (no cover)

laughlin Seattle Folk Singer Rose Laughlin sings traditional Celtic and American Roots songs. Rose’s interpretation, blend of different influences, personal approach to songs, results in a unique and captivating sound to traditional music. Come listen to where old meets new!

Since returning to Seattle Rose has performed at many venues including the Juan de Fuca, Folklife, Choochokan Arts and Vashon Festivals. She recently performed at NW Folklore Coffee House Concerts, as well as several NW wineries. While in Chicago one of Rose’s delights was performing at the Milwaukee Irish Fest.

Read what critics are saying about Rose’s latest CD “The Chicago Sessions.”

“It’s a gently intimate but also immensely powerful record, replete with warmth and an involving sense of presence, on which Rose’s gorgeous voice is given exemplary prominence within imaginative, sublimely minimal yet full-toned musical settings. Rose responds intuitively and clear-sightedly to her chosen material, delivering the songs with a solid confidence and a sensuous intensity that’s born both of thorough preparation and deep understanding.” (David Kidman FolkandRoots.co.uk March 2009)

"The richness of Laughlin’s voice paired with the incredibly solid guitar work of Mike Kirkpatrick creates a warm and generous feeling throughout the album. I found myself flowing along with the music. Even in “Unquiet Grave”, the richness of the story fills the space. It has a definite presence to it. Laughlin is a gifted storyteller. I’m most taken by the different and refreshing arrangements to many old favorites.” (Matthew Moeller, Victory Review, November 2008)
